Concrete jungle where dreams are MADE of...

(Side note: Um. When I typed the lyrics as the title of this post it dawned on me that it makes no sense. Grammatically. No sense. Alicia and Jay-Z need a little English assistance.)

SO! Today I have class, class and more class then hitting the gym (pushing for 25 mins on the stairmaster. We shall see how THAT goes) and then running home to get to bed early because I have to be at South Station at 6:30 to head to NYC!

What's in store for my ONE day in NYC?

*First: Grabbing a coffee with this gorgeous man upon arrival into the city*

*Then going to the following*

*Then meeting the aforementioned gorgeous man and going to try on ONE dress here*

*Then going here for dinner with said gorgie male and heading back to Boston*

Will be back Friday with a recap and a CUPCAKE (or 5)!

*PS: Today HFG is debuting Chixie- Don't forget to wish her luck!*

Waterlogged

Since Boston is currently in the midst of monsoon season, I thought it was only fitting that I procure the ONE necessary item to make it through to summer.

WELLIES!

I desperately need a pair. I LOVE the Hunter ones but my calves have always been too big for them (thank you 20 years of ballet.) I came across these when I was doing a search for Men's which I thought might be wider- Adjustable calf tall Hunter Wellies! I MUST have them. This website only delivers to the UK. Good thing I have a good-lookin' guy in England who could accept them for me!

Preppy Mafia Tag!

So I've been graced by the beautiful BLC and Sara with the Preppy Mafia tag! Thanks girlies!

*Blogger's not letting me upload the Preppy Mafia Picture but y'all get the idea*

Who is your favorite style icon? Audrey Hepburn & Jackie O

What is your favorite socialite book? I'm really into the Adele Park's books. She's british and Paul keeps feeding my addiction. (On the cruise I read a 685 page book in 24 hours.)

Favorite theme party? Um... I'd have to say a luau/fiesta! (Mainly for the fun cocktails)

Go to Halloween costume? Black kitten. Meow!

Extravagance you cannot live without? Lipgloss and manicures

Living persons you admire? Hillary Clinton and my Nannie (update- And my mom. She did an amazing job raising me all on her own.)

Greatest fear? Not being able to have a baby.

Trait you deplore in yourself? I have a SUPER fiery temper. I tend to blow up quickly and do NOT keep my opinions to myself. This can often get me into trouble! Am working on it.

What talent do you covet? Painting. I think it would be amazing to paint!

Greatest achievement? LSAT, law school, etc. (Agreed BLC!)

The Name Game

I realize that I have a year to decide but I've already been thinking about it and Paul and I have been discussing it.

Issue: Whether or not I should take HIS last name or keep my own?

My thoughts: There is something sweet about taking your spouse's last name but that also means giving up part of yourself. Also, I like my last name more than Paul's. Not to say he has a bad one, but to be honest, mine is kinda cool. I like it. People mention they like it. I'm used to writing it. People ask if I'm related to a few famous rockers that share it. It's not common and it is pretty nifty sounding.

Also, PB has been married before and the ex-wife kept his last name (which I think is bizarre, but to each their own) and I don't fancy being the 2nd Mrs. B.

So suffice to say at this point I'm leaning toward keeping my own. I'm also considering hyphenating or pulling a Hillary and using both last names.

His thoughts: It's traditional for a woman to take a man's name. It'll make us a true family. I would have the same name as our future children. He likes his last name and thinks it would look marvelous next to my first name. He likes the idea of us becoming a unit. (This from the man who also likes the idea of me saying I will 'obey' during the ceremony. I most certainly will not 'obey' anything unless he's willing to 'obey' me as well.)

What do y'all think?

Let's take a poll. Keep mine, hyphenate, use both or take his.

Weight Watchers Recap!!!

I had a FANTASTIC weigh in today.

How much had I lost this week?
0.
That's right.
0.

As in Z-E-R-O.

So why am I happy? Because I was on a CRUISE and the average cruiser gains 8 pounds on a 7 day cruise (Or so says the Google gods and the Celebrity cruise ship staff.) We got back last Saturday night and I weighed in on my own scale and I had gained 4 pounds. I was scared that when I actually got back on the real weight watcher scale today I would still be up a little. I stepped on today with a nervous tummy. I crossed both fingers and was praying I didn't hear the "You're up just a little." And I didn't! She whispered "You stayed the same." and I was ECSTATIC. I don't think she understood why, but I was. I busted my butt this week to lose it!

The day before we got on the cruise I finally hit the exact 60 pounds lost mark! This was a HUGE deal for me. I got to 50 a little while ago but I've been struggling with the last 10. I'd been plateaued for a while and I'm FINALLY back on track. I got a big celebration at the meeting today and about 4 people stopped to congratulate me and to ask me to give them tips.

Now don't get me wrong. It is not fast. I'm currently averaging about 1/2 pound a week. But slow and steady wins the race, right!? I'm all about little goals, so my next goal is to lose 2.2 pounds (I'll lose a point and enter a new 'decade' on the scale.)

(Random Side Note: I think that when I hit my goal weight one day I want to be a WW leader. I think it would be fun and something I'd be good at.)

Here's hoping for another great week!
How was YOUR weigh in this week?!

Meet Luna!

Luna was our dolphin we got to play with at Dolphin Cove in Grand Cayman. I have to say... This was the BEST adventure I've ever had on vacation. It was SO fun! We got changed into our bathing suits and were given black life vests to keep us buoyant.

(Side note- When I walked up they gave you whatever size they thought you should have. PB was in front of me and he was given a large. I was sure they were going to give me a 3x but they gave me a MEDIUM! AND IT FIT!!! I died.)

*Here we are meeting Luna!*

*PB smootching Luna. CRACKS me up*

*PB getting a dolphin kiss!*

*I couldn't stop giggling. I was more excited than the 7 year old in our group!*

*She tried to kiss me when I was trying to kiss her. We bonded.*

*PB got a ride. Look at his face! haaaaaa*

*Then I got a ride!*

*Then we made her sing for us. She loved me! Look!*

*Clearly I was her favorite.*

*We got some alone petting time with her. She felt like rubber!*

*At the end she high jumped for us. She's the highest jumper of all of them in the Cove.*

*Our beautiful Luna!*

I'll be back tomorrow with the last of the cruise wrap up!

Aaaaannndddd I'm back!

We had a BLAST on our cruise... We jetted down to Miami and hit Key West and Grand Cayman. I'll do a more in depth recap later in the week. Until then, here's a teaser.

I spent a lot of time drinking these...
(Please note the billowing dress and stunning hair)

And doing this...

Best. Week. EVER.
(Even if I did gain 4 pounds...)

New England Aquarium Bridal Expo

One perk of being engaged and of being registered on The Knot is I keep getting all these fun invited to free bridal events that usually involve free food and booze. Last night my mom, Courtney and I headed to the Aquarium for their first bridal expo.

Until we got there I had NO idea how on earth you'd have a wedding there, but it was actually pretty neat! When we walked in they had a few banquet rounds set up as displays; one with a floral centerpiece and the other with candles. They were really pretty displays and I got some ideas for the decoration of our reception tables.

*Me and Courtney- Sorry for the creepy quality, forgot the camera so we had to use the Blackberry and it was so dark that the flash made us look like creeps*

We got a glass of complimentary wine (which was surprisingly delicious) and made our way around the aquarium to the various food stations. The first one we came upon had marinated mushrooms, artichokes and a tomato and mozzarella salad. The mushrooms & artichokes were delicious. The tomato & mozzarella salad was a little bland, but still ok.

We then made our way around the big tank up to the next level. Along we way we sampled some mini beef wellingtons which were SUPERB! They were absolutely delicious and I was happy when they circled by later with them so I could grab another! On the 2nd level they had a pasta station with 2 types of ravioli; lobster ravioli in a tomato sauce with diced tomatoes and mushroom gorgonzola ravioli with walnuts. They were both pretty yummy but the lobster ravioli took gold medal. It was delicious... the lobster was fresh and tasty and the sauce was a perfect compliment.

*Me and Myrtle the Turtle... I found her as we were walking up to the 2nd level. We totally bonded.*

On the next level we had a taste of a plated dinner option. They served up beef tenderloin, mashed potatoes and some vegetables. Now, here's where I admit I'm not a big beef eater and I haven't had a steak in about a year and a half. I caved and tried the little portion and I was IMPRESSED! The steak was so tender that it practically melted in my mouth. The potatoes were "twice baked" and mashed and were perfectly seasoned with a hint of sour cream.

*Us trying out the beef tenderloin. So yummy!*

After we'd had our little tastes and some wine, we headed back down to the first level where they had wedding cake to taste by Konditor Meister and champagne. On the way back down we were passed shrimp wrapped in bacon. This was BY FAR my favorite hors d'oeuvres. The bacon was crispy, the shrimp plump and it tasted as if it had been basted in maple syrup. I practically snatched the try from the lady to eat them all! I've told Paul that we HAVE to have those as one of the hors d'oeuvres at our wedding.

The night was topped off by a giveaway of two big baskets full of wedding goodies, neither of which I won, and cute gift bags to take home. The gift bags had an adorable cookie with two dolphins painted on as well as a starfish shaped paperweight, coupon for apps at Morton's and a few other vendor suggestions and discount codes. All in all it was a fun night... We enjoyed the set up and the flow of the evening. I think the aquarium would be an exciting and unique place to tie the knot and I'd definitely consider it if I were to have a Boston wedding.

It was also fantastic to see the aquarium at night without hundreds of screaming children. The only thing I would have changed was that I would have had more vendors present- like photographers, invitation options, florists. This was their first try and they did an excellent job!

*Adorable sleeping turtle I found on our way out. He is so cute!*

Things I'm Loving Thursday

Here are the 5 things I'm ABSOLUTELY loving this Thursday...

*Nivea's A Kiss of Moisture Hydrating Lipbalm. I just ran out and am about to go buy some more! I've never used a lip balm to completion before. This stuff is perfect; Light, protective and doesn't goop up.*

*KEP Designs Knotted coin pearls and starfish necklace. So I realize this costs more than 1 months rent, but it would look stunning around my neck with a tan. Maybe as a graduation present! That is if I graduate... and let's not even talk about the odds of me passing the bar...*

*Vineyard Vines Koozies. All my friends think I'm a weirdo, but I just LOVE koozies. I have about 5 and my favorite is one I received from a fellow blogger last year for a swap. It is so cute! This would go perfectly with my budding collection. (Also, Vineyard Vines, It is a KOOZIE, not a Coozie. Get with it please.)*

*Spanx. I know most of you are already a fan, but I just have to announce my appreciation for them publicly! They save my life everytime... Even if they do cause me to have an embarrassing Bridget Jones moment at the end of the night. (Oh, y'all know what I'm talkin' about!)*

*Michael Kors Gold Oversize Runway watch. I LOVE Michael Kors watches and this is my new obsession. I love that it is massive and it would go just perfectly with my huge new gold ball earrings!*

What are y'all loving this week??

PS- I have NO idea why the last two are all underlined but effing Blogger is spazzing and everytime I try to fix it, it does it again and then Google Chrome "Awww snap!"s me and shuts down. Annoying. This post has taken almost 2 hours because of this ridiculousness.

White Collar

Do any of y'all watch this show? I started watching on Hulu right when it premiered and am obsessed with it! I just watched the finale last night... Was soooo good! Matt Bomer is the main character, Nick Caffery, and he is absolutely dreamy. He plays a world renowned art thief who gets out of jail by agreeing to be a consultant for the FBI.

If you haven't seen it watch it on Hulu right now! It's clever, exciting, interesting and really funny. Go check it out ASAP!

Mama's birthday dinner and such...

It was Mama's birthday (as mentioned below) and so I made reservations and took her to The Melting Pot, which is one of her favorites. CC and Chris came down to join us and we had a blast!
*Me and the Birthday Old Lady*

*MMM! Fondue!*

*Flaming Turtle Chocolate dessert fondue*
*Me and CC going crazy over the chocolate*

*Me and CC again. I was wearing 5 inch heels to be taller. LOVE!*
It was really fun and yummy but I have 2 complaints. 1- When I made the reservation I made a note that it was my mom's birthday in hopes they would bring her something or sing, and they didn't and 2- PB called, apparently, 2 days ago and ordered a bottle of champagne for the table and said it was for A BIRTHDAY, and it was NOT delivered! It was fun, but I don't think we'll be going there again for a special occasion. They really dropped the ball... twice!

PB and I got Mama one of these bags. I'm going back today to splurge on a hot pink one for myself. Don't judge me. Trust me, it's very necessary.

How was your Sunday?
